As mentioned in our podcast section, Max is my #1 favourite health and wellness expert rn.
Max wrote a book called Genius Foods which ignited my obsession with his research and have been religiously following his content ever since. Max wrote Genius Foods as a means to help people battle cognitive decline as his mom was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. Max’s book details the best foods to improve your cognitive health and shares how to prevent chronic diseases such as dementia & diabetes. Max is passionate about getting the message out that these are 100% preventable diseases – all you need is the knowledge of how to properly nourish your brain and body.

Dr. Perlmutter is the only physician in America that is both a board-certified Neurologist and Clinical Nutritionist. His was one of the first people that started writing about the dangers of a high carbohydrate diet and is passionate about helping people prevent early ageing and cognitive decline. I highly recommend reading or listening to both of these books if you are interested in keeping your mind healthy as you age.

Mark Hyman is a world-renowned Functional Medicine physician and is one of the first people that taught me what functional medicine was and how it differs from western medicine. I have gifted these books to many of my loved ones, as he breaks down all of the reasons for and against eating certain foods and how to prevent chronic disease.
Mark books are essentially user guides for how to navigate the food system. He talks about what the heck you should eat in order to gain your health back: meat, dairy, organic, gluten, lectins, carbs, dairy etc. He talks about food processing and how these foods affect your health.
Mark follows what he calls the Pegan diet, which is essentially a mix between a paleo & vegetarian diet. Learn about his food philosophies in either of these excellent books.

Dr. Catherine Shanahan is one impressive physician. She is a Senior Medical Oncologist at the Mater Cancer Care Centre, a clinical researcher, and a professor at the University of Queensland. She has the most progressive views when it comes to disease prevention and is definitely a wellness expert to keep your eyes on.
If you have been diagnosed with a chronic disease such as diabetes, pre-diabetes, cancer, dementia, heart disease, ALS, MS, autism, and more this is a MUST READ. Catherine goes deep into the science behind epigenetics and how to eat to protect your genes & prevent disease, even if you have a genetic predisposition. She details what actually causes heart disease (hint: it’s not cholesterol) and gives you all the information you need to prevent ever needing a cardiologist. When you’ve finished this book, you’ll have more current knowledge about diseases like heart disease & dementia than most of the worlds best medical practitioners. Take the info here to your own MD and make sure they are giving you the care you deserve!
Caution: this book is heavy on science and research, it may be difficult to digest if you don’t have a background in science. However, there is still some really great innovative information that has the potential to change your life – it’s that good. Hands down the best book on nutrition I’ve read this year.

He walks you through how to accomplish keto if you are a vegetarian or pescetarian. He also goes into details about micronutrients and which ones you might be missing if you follow certain diets. A great read for all interested in nutrition, even if you are not vegetarian.
