Home-made hummus is a guaranteed win in the nutrition department. Not only does it add extra flavour to any dish, but it also comes packed full of healthy fats, protein and whole-food carbs which will keep you satiated and fuelled throughout your day.
Always check labels if you are purchasing store-bought hummus. Food companies love adding cheap processed oils like canola and soy to these types of products because it makes them more shelf-stable and cost less. These oils are highly processed using caustic chemicals like hexane solvents, bleaches and deodorizers to create an oil that is cheap to produce but harmful to our health. Don’t be fooled, even “authentic” European + middle eastern brands have switched to these toxic oils in order to turn a profit. Olive oil should be the only oil added to hummus.
