Don’t know what functional foods are? Follow along, we will be chatting much more about what they are and their benefits in weeks to come.
Adding this recipe to your breakfast routine will help keep your tummy feeling satiated throughout your morning while providing your brain with fats it loves to run on.
Brain Boosting Coffee:
12 oz Organic Fair Trade french press, drip or espresso coffee @ethicalbean
1 Tbsp MCT oil @bulletproof
1 Tsp raw Cacao butter
1 Tsp Lion’s mane mushroom powder
1 Tsp cinnamon or vanilla (optional)
1 Tbsp Grass-fed Collagen peptides (optional)
2 Tbsp Organic Full-fat coconut milk (optional)
Add all ingredients to a blender and blend for 30s-1min. Yes, blending is best, it helps break apart fat molecules for better absorption of nutrients and creates a frothy deliciousness!
NOTE*If you are fasting in the am, leave out the coconut milk and collagen.
(Recipe adapted from Dave’s bulletproof coffee, which we also love!)
Nutritional highlights: increased energy, enhances cognition, decreases inflammation, creates ketones, balances blood sugar, decreases insulin resistance, and promotes cardiovascular health.
We’ve linked our favourite vanilla – it is SO delicious, once you’ve tried it you will never go back.
Lion’s mane is an adaptogenic mushroom powerhouse for your brain. Research has shown that Lion’s mane improves memory and cognition, decreases inflammation, assists in regeneration of damaged brain cells, increases insulin sensitivity and supports gut health. Boom. This is one of our fav functional foods!
Pro Tip: Don’t forgot to always go organic when it comes to coffee. Coffee is one of the most heavily sprayed crops – toxic/carcinogenic fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, and fungicides saturate our beloved am pick-me-up and we don’t want to be giving our brains a warm cup of chemicals for breakfast. More on when to go organic to come.
